We planned on staying in Vietnam for a month, backpacking from its southern city, Ho Chi Minh, to its northern capital, Hanoi, by land. Everything was well planned. What we hadn’t counted on was our visa validity in Vietnam—Filipinos are only allowed twenty one days in Vietnam—well, at least for free. Should we want to extend, we would need to shell out some dongs. Weighing things down, we decided to scrap some places to visit on our list and shorten some stay on others. Finally, we trimmed it down to three weeks. Our Vietnam backpacking itinerary still looked good, and we were quite excited to explore this country!
