Sunset View Restobar Boracay Buffet

One sunny day in Boracay found us looking for the cheapest buffet we could find at Boracay White Beach. We actually saw a ₱250.00 buffet, but found their selection to be too carinderia. I mean, we like carinderia food and we’ve actually eaten some of the most affordable food in Boracay, but we wanted something else for our buffet—perfectly roasted, juicy, and tender pork liempo, specifically.

We thought of going to Andok’s instead, one of the cheapest places to eat on in Boracay, but a single serving of their liempo costs more than a hundred pesos—that’s quite expensive for multiple orders. After much walking, we eventually found the best restaurant that suited our craving, Sunset View Restobar’s lunch buffet.

ABOUT SUNSET VIEW RESTOBAR’S BUFFET

Sunset View Restobar is located at Station 2 of White Beach. It sits right beside the now-defunct G-Max Reverse Bungy (it’s forgotten carcass is still there, but I digress), and is the in-house restaurant of Paradise Garden Resort Boracay.

They offer lunch buffet for ₱600.00 and dinner buffet for ₱900.00. Sunset View’s lunch buffet is, as of this writing, the cheapest or the most affordable buffet on Boracay. Their dinner buffet, on the other hand, is not that expensive too—although you can get cheaper buffet dinner prices at more upscale places like Henann’s Orchard Café or Garden Café.

THE BUFFET SPREAD

Sunset View Restobar’s buffet menu consists mostly of Filipino and Western dishes for both lunch and dinner. The dinner buffet has more offerings than their lunch buffet—heck, we even saw a whole pork lechon being prepped for dinner—hence, the much higher price tag.

THE RESTAURANT

SIMPLE FACADE FACING BORACAY’S WHITE BEACH

With an unassuming façade, Sunset View Restobar is situated right on the beachfront of Station 2. And as its name suggests, it has a premium view of the White Beach. There are about five tables out front that has a real good view of the beach, the rest are located at the backside of the restaurant, where you get a garden view of Paradise Garden Resort.

GREENISH TINT ON FOOD

There is, however, a few downsides to dining at the front part of the restaurant.

One, if you’d like to take photos of your food, you’d get a very green hue on your pictures due to the translucent green roof installed outside the restaurant—by experience, I’m telling you, your photos would all land on the trash bin. It’s also not easy to correct the color, even on Photoshop.

THE SMOKY MONGOLIAN GRILL STATION

Second, when we went there for lunch, their Mongolian Grill Station, which is located in that area, seemed to have a problem with its exhaust. The aroma of the peppers were all over and our eyes were hurting and becoming watery due to this. So, after realizing it was the grill that was irritating our eyes, and not our sunblock—which we first thought it to be—we transferred to the back of the restaurant.

BACK PART OF SUNSET VIEW RESTOBAR

That part of the restaurant is pleasant enough—it’s actually larger than the front portion. The interiors are tastefully decorated—although somewhat confused on some aspects, like the paintings that adorn their walls. The room is spacious and can probably seat more than a hundred guests, and there is an acoustic duo that belts out classic love songs that are quite pleasant to the ears—albeit a bit too loud for my taste.

THE FOOD

CHICKEN TERIYAKI AND FISH AU GRATIN

During our visit, the main courses were roasted pork liempo, fish au gratin, chicken teriyaki, and pumpkin crabs in coconut milk. Off the sides are bulalo soup with veggies, a salad and potato station, and a bread and cereal station. Their Mongolian Station has choices of miki or sotanghon noodles, for grilling with chicken and various vegetables.

ROASTED PORK LIEMPO AND MONGOLIAN GRILLED NOODLES

Most of Sunset View Restobar’s main dishes were pretty average. The Mongolian grill was a bit better though, and it went quite well with their really superb pork liempo. That’s what made this buffet shine for us, and that’s what we mostly feasted on. We actually stopped eating the other dishes, not wanting to waste precious tummy space, to make way for more pork liempo.

BULALO VEGGIE SOUP AND GINATAANG KALABASA | PORK LIEMPO

We made some computations off the top of our head—with the amount of pork liempo we ate at Sunset View’s buffet and the fact that our son is free of charge, we actually saved a couple of hundreds of pesos.

Note that during our visit, the price for their lunch buffet was still at ₱450.00 per head.

To be honest, the food is a bit limited for your usual Boracay buffet. But for the price, and for the pork liempo alone, we found Sunset View Restobar’s buffet to be more than good enough.
