Jenter Food Hauz’s Pancit Batil Patung Anonas QC

We were on our way to a foodtrip weekend at Taal Vista Tagaytay, call time was still at five in the afternoon and the meeting place was in Cubao. With a few hours to spare, I was racking my brains on what to do to while away the time when I remembered a comment I received on my Facebook page about a pancit batil patong place near Cubao.

Together with my constant pancit companion, C, we headed to Anonas to find Jenter Food Hauz Pancit Tuguegaro. Going there was easy enough. From the corner of EDSA and Kamuning, we boarded a Project 2-3 jeepney and alighted at the corner of Anonas and Bigna Street. From there the panciteria is just a hop away.

JENTER PANCIT TUGUEGARAO IN ANONAS

Like most pancit batil patong places in Metro Manila, the eatery serves nothing but Tuguegarao’s famous noodle dish, well, along with a few products from the region like garlic longanisa (PHP140.00/half kilo), chicharabao (PHP80.00 per pack), and Alcala milk candies (PHP80.00 per pack).

NO FRILLS INTERIORS

Jenter’s open-aired interiors are straight up simple; tiled floors, yellow walls, collapsible wooden tables, and plastic Orocan chairs. Their selling point isn’t really their looks but their dish, the delectable pancit batil patong.

And these comes in three varieties. The cheapest one and most basic is their Super (PHP100.00), followed by Jumbo (PHP120.00)—which has your basic pancit batil patong recipe plus a dosage of chopped pork liempo. The most expensive of the three is their Hataw (PHP150.00), which not only has pork liempo but also slices of embutido. We were told that serving size are all the same, the only difference are the toppings.

THEY USE HAND-PULLED MIKI FROM TUGUEGARAO

I ordered their Hataw while C, not really a fan of embutido, went for Jenter’s Jumbo.

While waiting, we found out that the owner and their cook actually hails from Tuguegarao City. The latter told us that he previously worked with the famed Jomar’s Panciteria near the iconic Tuguegarao Cathedral and they use only legit hand-made miki transported all the way from the city. We knew right then that we’re in really good hands.

And soon enough our food arrived, one plate at a time. The chopped white onions and calamansi dip arrived first, then the batil soup, and finally the pancit itself.

Serving size isn’t as enormous as most panciteria of these kinds offer. It’s actually just enough for one. I was thinking that since the price is higher than usual, the size would make up for it, but I guess the extra we paid for went to the liempo and embutido.

JUMBO COMES WITH SLICES OF PORK LIEMPO

I started by having a sip of their soup. It was as it should be. It is delicious.

I then moved towards the main dish. The taste was actually spot on, Jenter’s got their pancit batil patong right. The carabeef flavor is just right and not overpowering, although it has a bit of an aftertaste. The egg is cooked right and they have liver mixed in. I kinda miss the usual veggies this dish usually have though; the cabbages and bean sprouts actually help in balancing the umay factor that can go along with this type of pancit.

HATAW COMES WITH SLICES OF PORK LIEMPO AND EMBUTIDO

I like that it has a carajay toppings, which was really very crunchy—something I find missing when eating at Cagayan’s Best Pancit Batil Patong in Bustillos. While I don’t really dig the embutido, the liempo does go well with the pancit, I just wish that it was also crisply cooked like their carajay.

All in all, we found our pancit batil patong experience in Anonas to be quite enjoyable. It tasted legit, albeit with a teeny weeny bit of maanggo aftertaste—but it’s nothing that a glass of Coke cannot cure.
