Dorsett Kuala Lumpur Review

“The first thing we’re gonna do when we arrive in Kuala Lumpur is to have a plate of our favorite Malaysian noodle dish, mee goreng!” I excitedly told C as our plane touched down on KLIA 2’s tarmac. We arrived at Malaysia’s capital city at three in the morning, checking in at the Dorsett Kuala Lumpur for two nights. My noodle craving was still in full effect, it has been years since I had one, but when we opened the doors to our hotel room, the pull of the bed seemed much stronger than my tummy’s cravings. We slept.

I was a bit frustrated the next morning, giving in to less important matters in life like sleeping. But my spirit was quickly rejuvenated as I saw the offerings at Dorsett’s buffet spread—mee goreng! And it was unlimited too!

TRAVELING TO KUALA LUMPUR WITH THE CEBU PACIFIC GANG

It has been too long since I have last been to Kuala Lumpur. We’ve been skipping the city the past couple of years, heading over to Melaka instead or sometimes just sleeping at the airport. So, even though we’ve been to KL innumerable times, I terribly miss it. And now, I’m finally back! Yasss!

Together with a group of veteran travelers, we took a flight from Manila to Kuala Lumpur to see new places in the city and have a day tour of Ipoh in the process too. We flew on a Friday, utilizing Cebu Pacific’s daily flights to KL which departs at nine in the evening. It was perfect for most of my companions who have work that day and people who want to maximize their weekends.

LOUNGE AREA AT THE GROUND FLOOR

Our base of operations while in the city is Dorsett Kuala Lumpur, a four-star hotel along Pudu. I like how quiet the area is, but more than that, I like how it’s just walking distance away from Bukit Bintang—the busier and crazier part of KL. In fact, we did actually went to the Changkat Bukit Bintang party street, passing the Jalan Alor food street, on our last night in the city to party ‘til the early hours of the morning. And we walked the same way back, the area is very safe.

The hotel is near KL’s shopping district, which can be a good or a bad thing, depending which side of the fence you’re on, lol. And if you’re taking the mass public transports to get around, the MRT Bukit Bintang and Conlay Stations are just ten minutes away by foot, and the stop for GoKL free bus is just four minutes away.

THE VIEW FROM OUR ROOM

The hotel itself looks shiny and new, considering it’s already twenty years old. From the snazzy lobby, the comfy lounge area, up to our room at the 18th floor, the Dorsett Twin Room.

TOILET AND BATH DETAIL

Our room is huge, larger than what we need, actually. It has two double-size beds, a sofa near the floor-to-ceiling window that overlooks parts of the city, a work station on one corner, and closet space near the door. The en suite toilet and bath was sufficient; I like their customized toiletries, it adds character to an otherwise overlooked part of the room.

EXCELLENT MALAYSIAN BREAKFAST!

But the best part of Dorsett Kuala Lumpur is the Checkers Café where we had our daily buffet breakfast. Although they don’t serve bacons (their beef bacon surprisingly rocks) since most hotels in Malaysia are halal, it has a mamak (Indian Muslim) section, which we dearly love. The need to go to Jalan Alor for our noodle fix is forgotten. Mee goreng plus roti canai—love, indeed.
