An Old Lady Praying the Station of the Cross at Our Lady of Conception Church in Malabon

The last time I recall that I did a real Visita Iglesia was years and years ago with my family. We weren’t able to complete the traditional fourteen churches to be visited then and were only able to go to less than half that number since we were constricted in the areas of Malabon.

After our near-fatal incident less than a month ago at El Nido’s Calitang Beach, my brother suggested to revive this Christian tradition in our family, partly as a way of giving thanks for the second chance we got during that mishap. This time, we decided to complete the fourteen churches and include the Stations of the Cross from each one.

Pilgrims Walking to the National Shrine of Divine Mercy in Marilao, BulacanFrom Malabon to Navotas, Caloocan to Valenzuela and finally Bulacan; we visited old and new churches both humble and grand, braved the throngs of faithfuls and said silent our prayers. Allow me to tag you along the Fourteen Stations of the Cross.

  4. can i just say I used to hate visita iglesia as a kid. Between the heat and the fasting, I'd always end up exhausted and starving after hopping from one church to another. But this year, I actually enjoyed it. My family let me plan the itinerary (itinerary?? lol) and got so into the research part. my parents are big architecture fans and I chose the ones with interesting exteriors and interior.s also, I veered away from our usual list so every stop t was new to us.It felt less like a routine more like a historical tour--which we also love, and that made all the difference. next year, we're probably going on the other side of the metro and maybe the following years to different provinces
