Playa del Carmen has fair weather the whole year, with an average temperature between 21 °C to 32 °C. However, the best months to visit Playa del Carmen are between December and May, since there is less humidity and no risk of rain.

 

HOW TO GET TO PLAYA DEL CARMEN


The distance from Cancun to Playa del Carmen is approximately 60 kilometers. Since Playa del Carmen has no airport, you first need to arrive at the Cancun International Airport and then get to Playa del Carmen. However, do not worry, there are plenty of transportation from Cancun airport to Playa del Carmen so that you can choose the best for you, either an ADO bus, taxi, car rental, or private transfers. The travel time is about one hour through the Cancun/Mexico 307 Highway.

The most common and cheapest option to go to Playa del Carmen is by bus. ADO buses have air conditioning, preselected seats, and enough space for luggage. They also have frequent departures, whether you take your bus from downtown or the Cancun International Airport.

However, setting up private transportation from Cancun airport in advance is another great option to avoid the crowds or high rates for last-minute reservations. That way, you make sure your vehicle and a representative will be waiting for you to take you directly to your hotel or destination in Playa del Carmen.

 

 

WHAT TO DO IN PLAYA DEL CARMEN


Playa del Carmen is one of those places where you never run out of entertainment options. There are activities and attractions for all ages, so do not worry. Planning your itinerary can be a good idea.

The pretty beaches are the leading travel reason for many tourists who visit Playa del Carmen, with their white sand and turquoise waters, perfect for snorkeling or scuba diving. Most of them are public and located along the hotel zone. Still, if you are asking yourself, tourists prefer Playacar, Playa Mamitas, Maroma, and Punta Esmeralda, so make sure you visit them.

Walking through Fifth Avenue is also a must during your visit. It is almost five kilometers long, and you can find famous restaurants and bars, boutiques, handicrafts stores, and many other exclusive attractions for a fantastic evening. At the end of Fifth Avenue you will find Parque de Los Fundadores, the perfect spot to enjoy the sunset and take a photo with the colorful Playa del Carmen letters.

If you want more adventure near Playa del Carmen, you can also go to Xcaret, Xel-Ha, or other water parks. These eco-archaeological parks offer activities on the subway rivers and cenotes to get in contact with nature.
 
On a side note, Playa del Carmen is also close to certain attractions that you can easily visit by yourself or get a Cancun to Playa del Carmen shuttle. Whether you want to go to Cozumel island or Tulum, visit the archeological zone of Coba and Chichen Itza.

 

WHERE TO STAY IN PLAYA DEL CARMEN 


Playa del Carmen is not a big city, so the best area to sleep is downtown, near Fifth Avenue, close enough to walk to the shopping street without being disturbed by the noise of the bars and nightclubs.
