Imperial Heritage Melaka Hotel

Kuala Lumpur has always been a favorite for us, but during our two-month ASEAN Summer Loop trip, we wanted to explore a new place in Malaysia. Melaka was the first thing that came to our mind. Not only is it just a couple of hours away from the new KLIA II airport, but it also boast of a UNESCO World Heritage Site listing.

BEAUTIFUL SUNSET AT MELAKA

Coming straight from the airport, we arrived at Melaka just before twilight sets in. I quickly whipped out my phone and opened my map. Our hotel of choice, The Imperial Heritage Melaka, was just walking distance from the Mahkota Medical Centre bus drop off. We followed our map as the sky exploded into an array of reds and oranges.

We were flabbergasted when the massive, stately façade of the hotel loomed from across the street from where we were standing. It was stunning, very imperial indeed!

WIDE, OPEN-AIRED HALLWAYS

From the lobby, a courteous staff greeted us and readily helped us arrange our check in. It was a quick and painless procedure, we were soon going up to the 17th floor and walking along the hotel’s slick open-aired hallway that looks out over a portion the heritage city.

I’M LOVING THE WALL FINISH

As with the parts of the hotel that we have seen, our Deluxe Room, did not disappoint. The floor is laid with laminated wood planks and is nicely complemented by modern furnishing and light fixtures. I specially love their chandelier-like lamp (and their fast Wi-Fi too, yeah)!

The en suite toilet and bath was equally spacious. The gray marble finish gave it a really elegant appeal.

OUR HOME FOR ONE NIGHT IN MELAKA

The Imperial Heritage Melaka is one of the newest hotels to spring up in the city. In fact, it was only a few months old when we went there for an overnight stay. It has a total of 329 rooms, three restaurants, a skybar lounge, a modern gym, three meeting rooms, and a networking lounge where they serve free tong sui (a warm, sweet soup dessert) and have iPads which guests can use, free of charge.

But all that aside, the best thing about the hotel is its proximity to the World Heritage area of Melaka and the very vibrant Jonker Walk. How close? Like five minutes away by foot.

BON APETTITE CAFE, WHERE WE SHOULD’VE HAD OUR BREAKFAST

The next morning, we went to their third floor restaurant for our breakfast buffet. I think that restaurant was still undergoing some finishing as I wasn’t really that impressed by it. It was only later that we found out about their ground floor café dubbed as the Bon Apettite Cafe. Now that’s more like it!

Unfortunately, we were unable to try their dishes as we were already quite full from our food trip across the numerous hole-in-the-wall restaurants in Melaka.

JACUZZIS!

It was also a bit too late when we found about the hotel’s pool and Jacuzzis. We were simply wandering about, killing time as we waited for a new-found friend who lives in Melaka to bring us to the bus station. Our stay in Melaka was so short (a grand total of one night), that we literally promised to the friendly hotel staff and to our friend that we would be back next year.

And we’re not just saying that, we already have a ticket booked for Melaka next summer.
