METRO MANILA | The Red Baron Invades Manila

Red Baron Ribs and Steaks

The mighty sound of revving engines can be heard rumbling outside. We were at the Red Baron, but those sounds were not coming from the Jagdgeschwader 1, the squadron where Germany’s famous Red Baron flew, they were coming from vehicles driving into the carwash area where the ribs and steakhouse is located.

Red Baron Ribs and Steaks

It was almost Halloween when we visited The Original Red Baron Steaks & Ribs Quezon City—they have another branch in Sta. Cruz, Manila, then the The Original tag. The place was decked with all sorts of ghoulish stuff that would make Ray Bradbury proud—spider webs, pumpkin heads, chopped hands. Being located inside a carwash, which is the way they really wanted it to be, Red Baron’s floor space is quite small. It nevertheless can seat a total of twenty-two individuals quite comfortably.

Red Baron Ribs and Steaks

The restaurant is a baby project of two young entrepreneurs, and as their name suggests, they serve mostly ribs and steaks. Checking their menu, I found a lot more than those though. They also have some shrimp appetizers, Buffalo wings, nachos, burgers, coffee, and yes, imported beer.

The first thing we got to try was a plate of their Nachorrific (₱238.00). On appearance, it seemed different from the usual nachos I’ve tried—the toppings were devoid of any veggies and the chips were of a different texture and color.

But it seemed different was good. We were all raving upon first bite. The toppings, combined with the dressing were simply spot on. The chips were to die for too—crispy, thin, and delicious.

Then a plate of their Volcanic Bacon Mushroom Melt (₱255.00) landed on our table. My goodness, it looked as good as its name. Lava mozzarella cheese was sprouting from its top together with crispy, McDonald’s-like twister fries. The patty is made from angus beef and is sandwiched with layers of bacons and veggies.

How was it? It was gone before we stopped clicking our cameras.

It was a good thing that it was quickly followed up by Red Baron Rib & Steak’s Brunch Monster Burger (₱245.00). It looks like a clubhouse sandwich but is packed with certified angus beef patties, eggs, bacons, and cheese. It alsocomes with a side dish of French fries. It was more than enough for two individuals.

And then it was time for the heavy guns. Red Baron’s Herb Crusted Heavy Porter House Premium Steak (₱1,959.00) was served and we all tried to stop from salivating. The serving size is absolutely colossal, good enough for four methinks, and comes with three side dishes—a cup of rice and a bowl of dried peanuts in shell.

It was all nice and tasty but the next slab of meat plunked down our table easily topped it off; say hello to Red Baron’s Rib Eye Steak (₱289.00). Serving size is average compared to their porterhouse, but at a fourth of price, this one’s a steal. It comes with your choice of side dish, a cup of rice, and a jar of dried peanuts.

To push everything down, we were served with their delightful mason-jarred drinks. Red Baron offers coffee and non-coffee based drinks along with fruit drinks. I tried their Speculoos Cookie Butter (₱155.00) and found it to be really good, better than most Starbucks Frappucino drinks even.

Red Baron Ribs and Steaks

So how was my Red Baron experience? I’d have to say that it was pretty good. The prices are on the steep side but are justified by their huge serving sizes and superb taste. If I was to choose only one dish from the ones we tried, I’d have to say it’s their Nachorrific. Or their Rib Eye Steak. Hmmm… Okay, I’ll choose two.

  1. What do you mean "steep-side"? Hope they are not too pricey, but by the looks of it, everything seemed to be yummy.

    1. Hi Joy, their dishes are at the P250 range, for me that is a bit pricey, but it may be just be regular for some peeps. Although as I mentioned, the servings are quite huge so the price is indeed justified.

And yes, everything is yummy :)
