LA UNION | Dinner at Thunderbird Resorts Poro Point

Thursday, May 10, 2012

Close your eyes and think of whitewashed walls, massive archways, blue domes and Atlantisian artworks. Picture the azure ocean, sparkling pools and sprawling greens. Think Greece and imagine Santorini. Now open your eyes.
You really don’t need to fly all the way to the Mediterranean to experience all these; a drive down San Fernando City in La Union will do. And for Lakbay Norte 3’s fourth night, we were lucky to do just that, we’re having dinner at Thunderbird Resort!

The five-star resort in La Union is exactly what my mind pictured it. Thunderbird is indeed Santorini transported to the Philippines; the whitewashed walls, the open sea, domes, unending stone stairs and archways.
We were seated at the open area at the back of the resort; it’s gonna be an al fresco dinner. For starters, we were served with pastries and cheese platters.
We were soon trooping to the buffet table for platefuls of Beef Ragu on Penne Pasta, Seafood Kebab in Wasabi Dressing, Orange Teriyaki Beef and Mediterranean Chicken in Lemon. As a bonus, we were also treated to a special slice of Salmon Pizza.

I’m not really used to rich-people food, but I can definitely get used to this; everything was excellent!
The bar was opened to the Lakbay Norte crew afterwards; unfortunately I was too full to guzzle more than a bottle of alcohol.
Everyone wanted to stay for the night and experience the Grecian charms of Thunderbird Resort but we were scheduled to stay on another resort in La Union. Two hours went too fast and we said our silent goodbyes to Thunderbird Resort too soon.

  1. Wow, it would have been great if you had slept overnight, right? But to think you got to set foot into a piece of Mediterranean, only few travelers can do that. Congrats!
